what is your score?

something that is important to nic and i as we search for apartments in our future home (denver- we're coming to you dec/jan!!!) is their walk score.
www.walkscore.com is SO awesome!

you type in your address and it lets you know everything that is nearby and exactly how far away it is. Then, it gives your address a score out of 100 of how walkable it is. Can you walk to the grocery store? to take your kids to the park? to mass transit? to the library? out to eat?

My parent's house in the suburbs scored a 42 which makes it car dependent.

but... we found our IDEAL apartment (and can't wait to check it out when we go in April!) and it scored an 88! it's totally walkable, and we love that.

(so why do we own 3 cars?)
by the way... selling our VERSA! want it?

Oooo where's it at?! :) If you need an apartment hunting buddy, I'm totally down.

I wish I would have known about this before we bought our house. That is the thing I hate most about our location. I tell Charlie our next house (in Colorado, right?) we are going to make sure we can do things without having to drive in a car.

Thanks Ali!! The perfect place is in baker. We love that neighborhood so much! It's called lincn terrace. It's income controlled so hopefully there isn't a crazy waiting list. We're also looking in lowry but we've never been there- is it cool or lame?

Thanks! We got a 62, so somewhat walkable. Cool!

I love Lowry - it's like Stapleton....and alot closer to Stapleton, too... hint*hint There's a gym in Lowry that I'm planning on joining next month, and they have an awesome ice rink. Also, Pei Wei, Albertson's, Delectable Egg...It's very family oriented, like Stapleton.

You should look at the condos we live in - there are several for sale that are very affordable. I think I saw one that sold for 85k (not good for our home value, but good for the buyer!).

I've seen Lincoln Terrace; it's right next to Chipotle and Noodles. (Score!) I worry you'll hear a lot of traffic noise from Lincoln- it's such a busy street! But you've got a straight shot to the cherry creek mall from Speer (another score!) The building is brand new, so that's a plus. :) Yay!

oh yeah! I forgot Lincoln Terrace is right next to Il Vicino, too! (Another score!!!) :)

Yes! You are talking about moving to Denver! And from reading your other blog comments... Lincoln Terrace apartments! You HAVE to live there because then you would be in my ward!!! I am not allowing you to live in Lowry. You are only allowed to live in Denver! It is so much cooler! Ok maybe I am just biased, but I would be happy to help you find a place downtown. I have lived all over this city. And my house scored an 80 on the walking scale(and really it should have been higher because it failed to take into account a lot of things.) So you can trust me to help you find a very walkable place to live.

hahaha angela you are cracking me up!

yes. we're moving to denver! maybe I should make a whole post about this, not just a comment. Nic graduates in December and then off to live the d/town dream! we're coming out in april to check out places to live and then probably again in august for nic to apply for jobs.

I think lowry or baker would be awesome. both sound cool.... i guess we'll just have to go check everything out!

and angela- that would be awesome to be in your ward!!

Sorry I just got a little excited when I heard that you might be moving into our ward. It's not a big ward, but it is really cool. Everyone is just so unique and fun. I think you would really like it.

You should give me a call when you are here in April. Unless it is at the beginning of April because I will be having a baby so I might not be much help. But if it's at the end of April feel free to call if you want some ideas on where to look.
